Following arguments by Rowan Williams and Sarah Coakley, the essay refuses to generalize about suffering; instead, it focuses on the author’s loss of his son and seeks for God’s presence in the midst of grief. It looks for guidance in the embodied liturgy of the Way of the Cross.
